HYBRID TRIMARAN PROPULSION SYSTEM

Electric propulsion is key to a sustainable trimaran’s hybrid system

Marine propulsion specialist Transfluid is supplying cutting-edge Bellmarine electric propulsion systems for the Leen 56 and Leen 72 trimarans. Produced
by Leen Trimarans, these vessels represent a significant leap toward more sustainable, efficient and eco-friendly maritime navigation.
With this collaboration, Transfluid reaffirms its position as a leader in hybrid and electric boating technology, combining performance with environmental responsibility.
The Leen 56 and Leen 72 are hybrid trimarans designed to balance luxury, performance and sustainability. They are ideal for long-range voyages, equipped with sophisticated propulsion systems that maximize efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. The trimarans feature two Bellmarine DriveMaster 20W EVO electric
motors in the Leen 72 and two DriveMaster 15W motors in the Leen 56, each with liquid cooling for optimal performance. These motors are highly reliable and designed to deliver a smooth and quiet navigation experience.
The electric motors provide enough power for cruising at speeds of up to 7kts, while also enabling quiet maneuvering in harbors, making docking and navigating tight paces
more comfortable for sailors.

Hybrid system

Each of the Leen trimarans is equipped with a unique hybrid propulsion system, with electric motors mounted on the outer hulls and a thermal engine in the central hull.
This layout is designed to optimize the vessel’s performance in various conditions. The combination of electric and thermal propulsion gives sailors the flexibility to switch between power sources based on their needs. When sailing in calm waters or approaching a quiet anchorage, the electric motors can operate independently for a silent,
emission-free journey. However, for longer distances and higher speeds, the central thermal engine provides the necessary power while maintaining fuel efficiency.
The hybrid configuration is supported by a robust energy system, including a 48V lithium battery pack, which ensures continuous operation even on longer voyages. The efficient energy storage and delivery systems on board enable the trimarans to achieve impressive autonomy, making them suitable for extended cruising without frequent fuel stops. This combination of electric and hybrid technology not only extends the range of the vessels but also significantly reduces their carbon footprint, positioning the Leen 56 and 72 as examples of sustainable luxury yachts.
With over a decade of experience in developing marine propulsion solutions, Transfluid and its Bellmarine brand have earned a reputation for reliability and innovation. The DriveMaster range of motors, including those used in the Leen 56 and 72, has been widely adopted in professional and leisure boating sectors worldwide. Known for their low maintenance requirements, energy efficiency and compact design, Bellmarine motors have become a preferred choice for shipyards and boat builders looking to ntegrate green technologies into their fleets.
This expertise has made Transfluid and Bellmarine trusted partners. The latter’s focus on eco-friendly, high-performance vessels aligns perfectly with Transfluid’s mission
to bring cutting-edge hybrid propulsion solutions to the maritime industry.
