Marine hybrid modules and batteries with DNV-GL type approval

We are proud to announce that Transfluid is the first Company in the world to have obtained two  DNV-GL Type Approval, one for the complete range of its marine parallel Hybrid Modules and one for its LiFePO4 Battery Banks. The TA regarding Batteries, includes the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) extension, a more strict list of requirements making our batteries the most safe worldwide. The total absence of Carbon and Graphite, avoid the well known destructive event named “thermal runaway”, which is one of the most restrictive tests to obtain the DNV-GL and NMA approvals.

The parallel hybrid technology gives a true redundancy on board, something that is uppermost for several inland water and off shore applications. The parallel hybrid concept makes the propulsion possible either through the internal combustion engine or through the electric motor, being both connected to the same powertrain. An electrical blackout would still leave the i.c.e. capable of operating the propulsion system, and in case of failure of the i.c.e., would let the electric motor to replace it. The parallel means also that the so called “booster” mode is always possible, that means to add the electric motor power to the i.c.e. power, getting a much higher maneuverability during any kind of difficult situation. The electric machine, that is motor and generator at the same time, allows fast battery charge during the i.c.e. operating mode, getting rid for shore recharging infrastructures, one of today’s barrier toward the full electric solution. The combination of Transfluid’s hybrid transmissions and batteries, in a plug&play supply, gives one of the safest and most reliable solutions to achieve what can be called the “green way” to performance and safety.

Transfluid’s heritage, belonging to more than 60 years of industrial applications, found the perfect harmony in the combination of “traditional” mechanical and hydraulic products with new Permanent Magnet Electric Machines technology, production of which started in Transfluid during the second decade of the 21st century. All of above, have been designed and produced homemade.

The search for the excellence and safety, will continues in Transfluid with the Type Approval for Electric Machines and other Transmissions, to be likely obtained during 2020.
